#LivingSalted: Krista Hengesh
Founder of Live Salted
Krista, age 22, recently graduated from Chapman University with a degree in Public Relations and a minor in advertising. She currently resides in Bend, Oregon where she is running Living Salted while simultaneously working at an adorable neighborhood coffee shop called Jackson’s Corner. When she is not working she can be found blending delicious concoctions in her blender, hiking outside, or dreaming about Live Salted’s potential and new ideas- she has too many, she doesn’t know what to do with them.
Her favorite Bible verse:
“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” the things God has prepared for those who love him” – 1 Corinthians 2:9
How would you define your current relationship with God?
KH: “Currently, it is great. This past year has been a crazy adventure and I have had to truly learn how to rely on the Lord for everything. He has taken me into waters so much deeper than I could ever could have wandered, and I don’t know where I would be without Him. These past few months, I have been trying learn more about theology and the Life of Jesus as well as spending time with the Spirit. I try to set aside at least 15 minutes for prayer and solitude daily.”
When did you know that LIVE SALTED was what you were called and created to do?
KH: “Growing up, I found myself in positions of leadership such as in Jr. High I lead Wyldlife, and in High School I planned assemblies and was the captain of the volleyball and track team. So I guess, I realized I had a gift of bringing people together from an early age and grew into that. I also have this ability to see potential in things and pull them out, so when I saw that I was able to do that in combination with my skill set from school, my love for people, and the ability to talk about the Lord- it all just clicked. In addition, when 300 people came to our first event I knew this was exactly what the Lord created me to do!
What do you value the most about yourself?
KH: “My dreaming spirit. I value my ability to visualize my ideas and turn them into reality.”
How have you grown recently? How else do you hope to grow?
KH: “I am going through John Mark Comer’s series called “Practicing the Way” right now and it is rocking my world. It is all about how to actively be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did and it is transforming how I live my life. I have begun to practice what it looks like to “pray without ceasing” and how to embody the Spiritual disciplines in my everyday. I hope to continue in learning these practices as well as deepen my understanding of the narrative arch of the Bible and the life of Jesus. I want to memorize more scripture!
What has been your greatest accomplishment?
KH: “Definitely creating Live Salted and putting on our first conference in April. I worked harder on that event than I have for anything else in my life, and to see it happen was unreal. I love being able to create an event, that results in memories that people never forget- over 300 women came to that event, and I would bet not a single one of them will ever forget it. I love bringing God’s daughters together to be in community and worship Him.”
When following your passion get hards, what is a truth that gets you through it?
KH: 2 things. 1) The war is already won. That the God I serve is in ultimate control and works things “all according to His good.” So when I start to hear lies, and doubt myself I know those are attacks from the devil, and that I am strong enough to stand up against them. 2) I am created for a time such as this. The Lord created me as I am for a purpose, and if I don’t listen to Him and be obedient than the good works He has prepared for me to do, won’t be done and I won’t step into the life that he has carefully crafted for me.”
What words of wisdom would you like to pass on to girls trying to #LiveSalted in their own lives?
KH: “To not look to other people or society to define who you are and what you should or shouldn’t do. Comparison is the thief of all joy, it pulls you away from experiencing your own unique life to the full.Freedom and true life occur when we are walking with the Lord, and living to only please Him (#livingvertically) and not the people to our left and right.”
For what in your life do you feel most grateful currently?
KH: Right now, I am extremely thankful for my family. I live at home with my Mom, and she could not be a better support system and friend during this time! Every morning she comes into my room and tells me how happy she is that I am living in the same house with her and how much she loves me (all the while the sun is rising over the river painting the most beautiful pastel masterpiece in the sky). My sister and I talk weekly and she checks in with me and asks how she can help. I bounce off ideas with my brother, and then my dad and step mom are always there for me by phone to listen to my rants and give me spiritual insight on what I am doing. My dad also never misses an opportunity to make sure I am keeping a humble attitude telling me that it is all for the Lord- which I do take very seriously. I am also grateful for living in Bend, this city is UNREAL.”
What do you hope to achieve in the future?
KH: “Oh my.. so much. Future, future I want to have an incredible marriage and raise up a tightly knit and Jesus loving family, and continue to keep my family close to me as they are now. But… before that happens, I want to put on two conferences early in 2017 in Portland and Seattle, and then in the next year or so go on a cross-country road trip tour across America putting on conferences everywhere we go. I also want to get a dog and name him Himma, like Himalayan sea salt 🙂 I could keep going on, but that is good for now!”
What is your personal definition of success?
KH: “Success is walking with Lord constantly and enjoying what Jesus meant by “life and life to the full.”
